Contai P.K. College

Prabhat Kumar College the heritage of Contai came into existence on 15th July, 1926 on the occasion of Gandhijis visit to Contai. Late Biswambhar Dinda a magnanimous humanist and educationist founded this college after his only son’s death "Prabhat Kumar".

The institution received handful donations from late Rai Saheb Gangadhar Nanda of Mugberia, Raja Durgadas Roy, Chowdhury Jadabendra Nanda Das Mahapatra, Babu Debendranath Nanda of Balageria, Rai Saheb Chandra Mohan Agasti of Basantia, Mahanta Badrinath Das.

The college made its maiden appearance as an arts college in 1926 under Calcutta University. Late Nepal Chandra Roy was the founder principal. A plot was annexed by from an American Baptist, in which the building stands.
It is now an accredited B+ grade by NAAC, UGC in 2007.

This institution is now afficiated with Vidyasagar University. Offering degree courses in
Arts Stream - English, Bengali, Sanskrit, Philosophy, History, Political Science, Anthropology.
Science Stream - Economics, Mathematics, Botany, Zoology, Geography, Physics, Chemistry, Geography.
Commerce Stream - Accountancy.

With compulsory Environmental science for all streams. Proffesor Amit Kumar De is the present principal in charge, with almost hundred members of the teaching faculty. Besides this there are centres for NSS, study centres for DDE, and (consisting of universities of NSOU, IGNOU, VU, RBU) computer programmes under DOEC.
